Why Le Gourmet
We started small β a home kitchen, a handful of clients, and a belief that Fitzroy deserved a proper cake maker. Not a bakery chain. Not a supermarket special. A real patisserie, trained in classical technique, but rooted in this neighbourhood.
The name is simple: we make gourmet cakes. Good ingredients, French methods, Melbourne soul. Over the years the kitchen has grown, the cabinet has expanded, and the client list has taken in hundreds of Fitzroy households β but the approach has never changed.
Every cake that leaves this kitchen has been tasted, adjusted, and personally signed off. We don't do volume. We do quality.
What makes our cakes different
No premixes, ever
Every batter, ganache, buttercream and glaze is made in-house from whole ingredients. If we can't make it ourselves, it doesn't go in the cake.
Seasonal flavours
The cabinet changes with what's good right now. Autumn brings spiced pear and dark chocolate. Summer is raspberry, yuzu, stone fruit.
Bespoke design
Every custom cake begins with a conversation. We'll ask about the occasion, the person, the flavours they love. The design follows from that.
Local suppliers
Eggs from a farm in the Yarra Valley. Butter from a Victorian dairy. Chocolate sourced from ethical single-origin producers. We know where everything comes from.
